Dorinda,
I probably can't help you much with this. Seems nowadays that a
Daniel fast is whatever folk want to make it. The Scriptures used for a
Daniel fast have nothing to do with Daniel fasting. Daniel was not
fasting. He simply did not want to eat goods that would be un-kosher to
the Hebrew people. I think you'll have to press your case with your
pastors.
But I will point out, again, that what is being called a Daniel fast today is
more a Christian novelty. A true Biblical fast is eating no food and drinking no
drink. As I said above, what Daniel did was not a fast. It had to do with kosher
eating. The only record we have of Daniel actually fasting is in Daniel 9:2,3,
where Daniel is seeking the Lord concerning the 70 years of captivity. It says,
"So I gave my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and
supplication,
with fasting, sackcloth and ashes."
Hope this helps a bit.
Bro. Buddy Martin
