What Daniel abstained from would not fit the category of a 'set
period of time.' This was a life position for him. It says, "Daniel
made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king's
choice meat."
As to how this fits us today, I simply recommend that you abstain
from anything that you feel is a defilement to your spiritual life.

Helga, it doesn't have to be food. If there is anything in your life that
you feel is a defilement, then don't partake of it.
