Kelly,
What the Bible teaches is moderation in all things. There is no Biblical against drinking in itself. The teaching is always against excess. Wine was a proper drink in Bible times and used at the family table. We often approach drinking from a different viewpoint. Americans are noted for drinking at parties or to get on a high or as a social outlet or as a recreational drink, but with the idea of getting a buzz.
As a Christian I would encourage you to approach the idea of drinking alcohol cautiously. For a person not use to drinking, one drink often leads to another and so on. Unless there is a valid reason for you to drink, I certainly would discourage it.
Hope this helps.
